We have many customers ask us this question and, indeed, have visited customers only to see that they have managed to fit their Procart filters back to front. So, this is not a stupid question and you are not alone in being unsure which is the front and which is the back of these concertina filters.
Our standard white, Procart and Procart I filter is fitted with the flatter side facing into your spray booth therefore the deeper folded 'V' section is the back of the filter. The diagram below shows this for you and it also demonstrates how the Procart filter works and how it holds onto the overspray or dust that you produce. The overspray enters the filter through the hole on the front and is drawn into the deep 'V' section. As the air circulates within this area the paint is absorbed by the cardboard and held whilst the air exits the filter via the offset hole on side of the 'V'.
If you have a Procart H, Procart HS or a Procart M2 that are constructed with a fibre layer, then this media should be installed facing the back as it is designed to act as a secondary level of filtration.
Procart H installed in a spray booth
With all our fibreglass filtration products there is a back and a front. It may not always be obvious, but it is important that the product is fitted correctly so that you are getting the most efficient and effective filtration.
Our PROFIBRE rolls are coloured green and white and it is the green side that faces into the spray booth therefore it is this face that the overspray hits. If you are using our specialist PROPORA filter, then it is the purple side that faces into the spray area.
Both these filters are ‘progressively built’ which means that the fibres are closer together the deeper into the filter you go. So, the fibres are closer together at the back of the filter than they are at the front. This is so that the larger overspray particles are held on the front of the filter whilst the smaller particles are held towards the back. If the filter is fitted, back to front, then it will block very quickly.
The answer to this question really depends upon the type of spray booth you have. If you have a booth in which the filter is designed to sit vertically then the Procart filters are better suited. If your booth has horizontal filter frames then you can use either filter however if you are able to fit a Procart then we always recommend using this range. If your filters are designed to sit horizontally at floor level, or lower, then the Profibre, the Procart K or Procart KH is, generally, better suited.
The Procart range of filters will always offer better filtration and maintain a constant and smooth airflow for much longer than the Profibre range. However every spray booth is different and every customer wants something different from their filtration hence the reason why we have a range of filters so that you can have the right filter match your requirements.
It doesn't matter which of the spray booth filters, from our Procart range, that you are installing into your booth, they are all installed in the same way.
The first thing that you must do is know which is the front of your filter; our standard Procart B is white on the front and brown on the back therefore the white faces into your booth so this is the side that faces the sprayer. The rest of our booth filters have the fibre on the back so, again, it is the cardboard that faces into the spray booth.
Once this has been decided then you need to measure the width of your booth and cut the Procart to size. The minimum number of folds, per metre, is 26 and the maximum around 32. This means that for every 1-metre of spray booth width you want to count between 26-32 folds on your filter. For example, if your booth measures 3-metres then you should count 3 x 26-32 folds (78-96 folds), plus an extra couple of folds at each end to hold the filter in place.
Generally you should use a pleated panel for air entering an area (air input) and a glass panel for air exiting an area (air extraction). Pleated panels give a higher level of filtration so can hold much smaller particulates, such as dust, that would pass through a glass fibre panel. This is why using a pleated panel to filter input air is recommended.
What you do with the water within a wet spray booth has always caused people issues however this need not be the case. You have two main options open to you; you can either pay to have the water pumped from your water tank or you can treat the water which will allow you to easily remove the sludge thus keeping your booth water.
Should you decide to dispose of the water then a local company will come to you and remove the water and most of the sludge. However, in between disposals, you should be treating the water with a biocide to kill any potentially harmful bacteria.
We feel the better option is to treat the water, with our PROCO range of products, which will enable you to remove the paint/sludge from your spray booth. This means that you are greatly reducing disposal costs, reducing maintenance as the paint/sludge is kept soft therefore reducing blockages, and not wasting water.
Our products can be matched with your requirements so that you are having the best treatment to meet your needs and your budget.
Please CONTACT US if you would like any further information or assistance.
There is a lot of talk about bacteria and a lot of scare stories about bacteria hiding within the water of your spray booth. We have found that many chemical companies use the word bacteria in order to frighten people into buying a range of products that probably aren't necessary. We have never done that and we will never do that. We prefer to give honest information and advice.
The first thing to remember is that bacteria is everywhere; its on every surface we touch, on everything we eat and, without it, we wouldn't live a very healthy life. So, it is harmful bacteria we need to be careful with not just bacteria.
The water within your spray booth will obviously contain bacteria but does it contain bacteria that could harm your workforce? There is always a very, very slim chance that harmful bacteria could be present which is why we tell our customers that, at the very least, they should be adding a biocide (Probio) to their booth water. PROBIO should be added to the booth water on a regular basis and will kill bacteria that could, potentially, be harmful.
In addition to our Probio biocide, we have additional treatment options for your booth water ranging from keeping the paint soft (no blockages) to a number of choices that allow you to remove all of the paint but keeping your water. This also means that you will never have to dispose of your booth water. Many of the products for these treatments contain a biocide so you are not only removing all of the paint from your system but you are also treating the water with a biocide.
If you would like further information or advice then please CONTACT US and we will be only too happy to help.
There are two things that you can do; the first is to address the production of the waste water and the second is treat the waste water.
Many of our customers produce their waste water through the cleaning of spray equipment such as spray guns and paint lines. Over a period of time this waste water mounts up and it isn't particularly unusual for us to be contacted when a company is running out of space in which to store their IBC's. We offer many solutions which allow for the treatment of this waste water that will allow you to separate and filter the paint solids leaving you with water that can be recycled for disposed. This means that you will no longer be storing waste water.
We can help and you will be able to treat your spray booth and remove the paint which will allow you to keep your water clean and your booth running.
The problem with mixing these types of paint is that the powder will want to sink and will not float along with the wet spray when the booth water is treated. So this requires a slight change in the way that the booth water is maintained but you will still have the same result which is you will be able to remove the paint solids leaving you with clear water.
We strongly recommend that you have your tank emptied and start a treatment with a clean booth and with clean water. Before you empty the booth you should add Detartrol to the water (best added 3-4 days before emptying the tank) which will soften paint that has dried both inside pipes and on surfaces and make the whole cleaning process much more effective and leave you with a very clean booth.
Once the booth is clean and filled with fresh water the ongoing treatment can start and you will be able to keep your booth and the water clean going forward.
We have a wide range of spraying equipment to suit all requirements.
Generally the compression sprayers are a smaller capacity and are carried at the shoulder with a pump at the top. Some of the compression sprayers have optional back-straps so that they can be worn on the back. The knapsack sprayers are larger capacity, are worn at the back and have a handle at the side for pumping.
Check the pH of the chemical that you are using and if you are intending extended use of acids or alkalines then you can choose chemical resistant equipment. Obviously the pH of a product is not the only consideration when deciding which is the most suited sprayer as it is the main active ingredients that are going to cause any issues. If you need any help selecting a sprayer then just contact us and we will advise on the best options.
A knapsack sprayer (also known as a backpack sprayer) is carried on your back. A compression sprayer is cylindrical in shape and is normally carried on a shoulder. Which sprayer is the best for you depends upon the type of work you are doing. Knapsack sprayers generally have larger capacity tanks and are designed for spraying large areas as opposed to compression sprayers that can be used for any type of job, either large or small.
One, very important, point to remember when deciding upon the design of sprayer is that, with a majority, of knapsack sprayers you are not compressing the air within the tank rather it is compressed within the compression cylinder that is inside the tank. This means that you have to compress the tank (pump the handle) far more often and, almost, have to 'pump to spray'. We do, however, have three models that can be pressurised to 6 bar (twice the normal maximum pressure) meaning that, once you are at working pressure, you won't need to pressurise as frequently as a standard model. These sprayers are our RS12, RS18 and RS18 Alkaline.
If you are looking to climb ladders or use telescopic lances, with your sprayer, then it may be advisable to consider a compression sprayer (unless you use the RS range) otherwise you will need a hand to pump the tank and another to hold a ladder or two others to hold a long lance. As the average number of hands, per person, is less than two you can understand why using some knapsack sprayers could be awkward.
The easy answer is that our telescopic lances will fit all the sprayers (apart from the hand sprayers) that we show on our website, both compression sprayers and knapsack sprayers. Some of the units will need a small connector but other than that you can use any of our sprayers with the large telescopic lances. The technical information of each sprayer will confirm if a connector is required or not.
If you are looking to connect our lances to a sprayer that you already own, we can't guarantee that they will connect with or without one of our connectors.
As each manufacturer of spraying equipment tends to have different threads and sizes, there is no guarantee that the 5.4-metre or 3.2-metre telescopic lances will fit any sprayer on the market.
The lances will fit all of our GOIZPER and IK sprayers as well as our electric rechargeable sprayer and Mesto sprayers however, the lances will require a connecting hose if being used with our Mesto sprayers or rechargeable sprayer. We recommend that you purchase a bundle with the lance which includes a hood and a directional tube with the connecting tube.
The pressure needed when spraying a liquid depends upon the product being sprayed and the circumstances in which the sprayer is used.
Many commonly used domestic products will not require a high pressure sprayer, perhaps only 3 BAR or even 1.5 BAR. However, thicker liquids will require more pressure.
Just because a sprayer can work up to a certain pressure, this does not mean that it must be used at that pressure. Some of our sprayers are fitted with specialist pressure gauges, allowing the user to choose the pressure that best suits them and the ideal pressure for the product being used.
We not only carry the entire range of Mesto sprayers but all of the accessories and spare parts. Which ever part you wish to replace (or you want to have a spare, just in case) then we can help you. As long as we know the model of the sprayer then we will be able to identify the part for you. Even if you don't know the model, with some simple questions, we will soon find out.
In order to push liquid out of the tank, pressure must be built up. Room is left within the tank for air, which is pressurised prior to spraying. The difference between tank size and working capacity is to allow for this.
When buying a sprayer, it is worth considering the fact that more pressurised air within a tank (or a greater difference between tank size and working capacity) means longer spray time before one must stop and re-pressurise the tank.
It is also crucial to know the working capacity of a sprayer, not just the tank size, as this is the maximum level to which the tank can be filled and still function properly.
Whilst our extensive range of compression sprayers and knapsack sprayers give you a whole host of options that will satisfy the requirements of most people, there are always some customisation that would make a, very good sprayer, perfect.
So, we are able to offer a number of variations to some of our sprayers such as different handles, longer hoses, additional lances or a selection of different nozzles. We recently helped a customer who bought one of our PROFI PLUS sprayers but wanted an additional, longer hose. The sprayer is supplied with a 2.5-metre hose but, because of the type of work the customer needed to complete, they wanted the longer length which would enable them to stand the sprayer on the floor and walk to the areas that needed to be sprayed. We supplied the longer, 5-metre, hose and their work was made much easier.
Some of our sprayers will show modification options but, if you can't see the option that best suits then just CONTACT US and we can discuss your needs.

The solvent based booth coatings, Elasticote and Elasticote TR, can be applied by sprayer for better coverage although it is also possible with a brush or roller. It will dry in about 2 hours.
The water based Elasticote AQ is a lot thicker and may need diluting in water for a sprayer. We recommend that this is applied with a roller. It will take longer to dry, about 8 hours so best to leave overnight.
If applying on galvanised walls which are pitted, it is always advisable to apply a layer of solvent based coating before Elasticote AQ as it will be easier to remove when dirty.
As Elasticote is a solvent based product you can use a solvent based cleaner. We have a specialist cleaner PROCLEAN that is a water-based product that can clean solvent & water-based products. It is also used in very small quantities so a very attractive product for both high and low volume sprayers.
Protecsol will protect your floor from marks that a forklift will leave on floors. It is very important that Protecsol is allowed to dry fully and is kept dry. If the floor becomes wet then it will lift if a forklift turns tight circles upon it.
Both Protecnet products are designed to attract and hold dust or overspray from areas where it is not wanted, they just do it in different ways. Protecnet is a tacky coating meaning that it doesn't dry, it is therefore thicker and can hold more dust. It is very good for use in areas that are subject to very high levels of contamination such as around spray booth filters. However, Protecnet is a tacky coating so it stays wet to the touch and this is where Protecnet H differs as it dries upon a surface.
This does mean that it will not have the holding capacity of Protecnet, but it can be used in many more situations and does not have the potential of cross contamination.
Proclean can be used neat or up
to 90% diluted with water. This is quite a spread of dilution rates but
that is because Proclean is a very versatile product as it can be used
with solvent paints and water-based paints.
For the general cleaning or
flushing of paint-lines Proclean can be diluted between 50% (1 part
Proclean to 1 part water) and 90% in water (1 part Proclean to 9 parts
water). Obviously, the heavier the paint deposit then the stronger the
Proclean mix.
Degrephos can be used at ambient (cold) temperature so there is no need to heat a tank. If you are planning to use Degrephos in an existing tank that can heat the contents, then the warmer the water the faster Degrephos will work.
Yes, choose Netasolv 100 which has a lemon scent. It is a very effective neutral alcohol based cleaner and degreaser.
Quality and price. ProSanit is a high quality, professional product that is supplied in concentrated form. If you are using it at 5% dilution (for general cleaning) then 1 litre of ProSanit will make around 20 litres of cleaning solution.
