FAQs

Steel bevel brushes are highly important due to their strength, durability, heat resistance, and effectiveness in heavy-duty cleaning, deburring, and surface preparation. They are widely used in industries like metalworking, construction, and manufacturing where robust performance is required to handle tough materials and surfaces.

We have three different types of brush within our range:

  • Steel Knotted Bevel - The bristles are twisted to form separate, very strong arms, that are angled to give some movement when in use. They are also very good when working over uneven surfaces.
  • Steel Crimp Bevel - The bristles are not twisted so give a softer brushing than the knotted bevels.
  • Steel Knotted Wheel - Same design as the knotted bevel only the arms are on the outside of a wheel so are ideal for getting into tight edges or between blocks.

Steel bevel brushes are particularly useful in heavy-duty industrial and mechanical applications. Their strength, durability, and efficiency make them ideal for specific tasks that require robust performance. Here’s why our steel bevel brushes are essential:

Durability and Strength

  • Resistant to Wear: The steel bristles are incredibly tough and resistant to wear, making these brushes ideal for applications that require high endurance, such as cleaning rough surfaces or removing tough coatings like rust, paint, and corrosion.
  • Longevity: Steel bristles last longer than softer materials like nylon or brass, meaning they can be used repeatedly in demanding environments without frequent replacements.

Effective in Heavy-Duty Cleaning

  • Rust and Oxidation Removal: Steel bevel brushes are particularly useful for removing rust, scale, and oxidation from metal surfaces. This makes them indispensable in industries such as shipbuilding, automotive, and construction, where metal surfaces frequently need preparation or restoration.
  • Surface Contaminant Removal: Steel brushes are highly effective at cleaning away heavy contaminants like paint, welding spatter, or thick grime, ensuring the surface is clean and ready for further processing, such as painting, coating, or welding.

Deburring and Edge Preparation

  • Sharp Edge Blending: Steel bevel brushes are ideal for deburring metal parts after cutting or machining processes. Their hard bristles can remove small metal burrs and sharp edges without damaging the integrity of the material.
  • Edge Preparation for Welding: In welding applications, steel bevel brushes are used to prepare edges and surfaces by cleaning the metal before welding, ensuring a cleaner weld with better penetration and strength.

High Heat and Pressure Resistance

  • Heat Resistance: Steel bristles can withstand high temperatures, making steel bevel brushes suitable for applications where other materials might soften or deform under heat. This is especially important in processes like welding or grinding, where temperatures rise significantly.
  • Pressure Resistance: Steel bevel brushes can handle high-pressure cleaning and finishing tasks, making them effective in removing stubborn coatings or residues that softer bristles would struggle with.

Versatility in Metalworking

  • Metal Finishing: Steel bevel brushes are used in metalworking to smooth out rough surfaces, blend weld seams, or prepare metals for finishing processes like painting or electroplating. The precision of a bevel brush allows workers to focus on specific areas of a surface while maintaining control.
  • Machining: After machining, these brushes are vital for cleaning and smoothing metal parts, ensuring that they are ready for assembly or further processing.

Corrosion Resistance

  • Stainless Steel: Stainless steel bevel brushes offer corrosion resistance, making them ideal for environments exposed to moisture or chemicals, like marine applications or chemical processing plants. This property ensures that the brush itself doesn’t contribute to further rusting or contamination of sensitive surfaces.

How do I know which size will fit my strimmer?

If you can remove the attachment or strimming head of your strimmer you will see a metal rod onto which the head fitted. It is the diameter of this threaded rod that you have to measure as this is what the bevel will slip over and attach to.

I'm worried they could damage my surface. Is there an alternative?

If you are planning to use the brush on a mineral surface (blocks, pavers etc) then you should be fine with these metal heads. Please remember that you don't have to push hard as you should allow the brush to do the work for you however, if you are still concerned, we have bevel brushes with synthetic bristles which are much softer so ideal for areas such as tarmac or where you are concerned about potential damage.
