Description

Detartrol is a powerful descaling solution, designed to remove the build-up of paint, sludge, and scale from within spray booths.

Added to your spray booth water at a concentration between 2% & 4%, the Detartrol solution should be allowed to circulate for a minimum of 24 hours up to a maximum of around 30 hours.  We classify this circulation period as the time when your spray booth is in operation, so the cleaning process can take up to 3 or 4 days, depending on your shift pattern. However, it is safe to continue using the spray booth as normal during this period.  We suggest the cessation of other chemical additions other than an anti-foam if required.

At the end of the cleaning period, the water should be removed from the tank, surfaces rinsed, pipes and filters flushed, and nozzles removed and cleaned.  Once complete, both the flushing and original cleaning water should be removed from the booth.  Customers may decide to dispose of this water and sludge, then refill the spray booth with fresh water; however, it is possible to filter the sludge and return the water to the booth, reducing waste and disposal costs.  However, this process does require using our Proco range of treatment chemicals to both separate the paint solids, ensure the proper filtration process and establish the correct conditions for continued use of the water.

Internal surfaces of the booth will be in an improved condition with paint deposits having been removed, but you may also notice that the water pressure will have improved as the inside of the pipes and the pump will have been lined with paint, which will have been removed, thus allowing the water to circulate as originally intended.

Detartrol is designed to be used with our Proco range of booth coagulants that will allow your booth to be kept clear of paint build-up by allowing you to remove paint on a regular basis to suit your requirements.  The first time that many of our customers use Detartrol is when they wish to start using our range of spray booth treatments to maintain their booths, and want to start the treatments with a clean booth.  They use Detartrol to clean the booth, dispose of the water, then start with regular dosages of Proco and Proflo+, which allows them to maintain a clean booth.

FAQs

Can I really use my booth with Detartrol in it?

Yes. Detartrol will not have any detrimental effect upon your booth operation which should affect your work during the cleaning process. The only thing that you may find is that, initially, the booth water may produce foam which can be easily treated with an addition of our anti-foam. Other than that, the booth can be used as normal.

Why do I need to flush the booth before refilling it?

Detartrol is a very effective and powerful product that, if not completely removed from the system, could potentially hinder the way that our Proco range of products operate as the water may not have the appropriate pH level. Also, it is a strong acidic product and you want your booth water to be as neutral as possible. This is why we recommend cleaning the booth of all sludge, rinse the surfaces and flush all pipes and nozzles before refilling.

Is there anything else I should be aware of?

Not really as we have covered the main points. Whilst the cleaning solution is pumping around the system it will be softening paint and scale build-up. You may find that this will block small areas such as nozzles so be aware of this during the cleaning process.

Do I need to dispose of the booth water?

After dosing your booth water and allowing the solution to clean your spray booth, the water should be removed in order to filter the paint sludge and to flush the booth system, however the water, and flush water, can be returned to your booth and you can continue using it, but before doing so, it should be neutralised with our pH regulator.

We are asked many questions on our range of Detartrol products and we can't list them all on this section. If you have a question that isn't shown here then please let us know. You can call us or send an email via our Contact Us page.
