Description
If rust is allowed to persist, it will weaken metal surfaces. As the rust is brittle and unstable, it can’t be painted over and will cause painted surfaces to break down, with the paint starting to bubble or flake. To prevent the formation of rust, the metal surface needs to be protected from air and water. This is what RUST COVER 1.5 does when applied to a surface; it reacts with the rust to form a black, vinyl-type layer, stopping the formation of rust and providing a stable base for painting.
Rust Cover 1.5 can be used on a range of metal surfaces, such as:
- metal structures
- tanks
- machine frames, etc.
Applied directly to rust, Rust Cover 1.5 forms a chemical complex with it, providing the benefits of passivation, phosphating, and vinyl protection. Surfaces treated outdoors can wait several days before being painted without the risk of rust formation, even if exposed to the elements.
When applied to oxidised galvanised surfaces, Rust Cover 1.5 prevents the development of rust.
Treated metal surfaces can be coated with two and one-component paints, including epoxy and polyurethane paints.
Rust Cover 1.5 can be applied to non-greasy surfaces in its pure form. It can be applied either:
- by brush
- by spray gun
- in a bath
Rust Cover 1.5 is an off white liquid and stays in this form while being applied to the surface. It slowly reacts with the rust and starts to dry, causing the surface to turn black. Once completely dry, the surface is ready to be painted. Treated surfaces can be left outside for several days before painting without the risk of new rust forming.
Before applying paint, allow the product to air dry thoroughly.
